Selection Criteria for MSc Students

The MSc Selection Committee evaluates candidates holistically, considering their qualifications as demonstrated by their submitted documents and their performance during a personal interview.

Evaluation of Candidates

The evaluation process for MSc applicants consists of three (3) stages, carried out by the MSc Selection Committee in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee:

Phase A – Document Review

The MSc Selection Committee examines the submitted documents of all candidates to verify eligibility.

Phase B – Scoring of Criteria

Each selection criterion is scored on a scale from 0 to 100, with each candidate receiving a specific number of points. The MSc Selection Committee and the Coordinating Committee evaluate and rank the candidates based on the following selection criteria:

(The document may continue with a detailed breakdown of the criteria, scoring system, and selection procedures.)

Selection Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree/diploma grade (20%)

  • Relevance of undergraduate studies to the MSc program's field (10%)

  • English language proficiency level (certification required) (10%)

  • Undergraduate thesis (5%)

  • Recognized professional or research experience in a related field (5%)

  • Publications in scientific journals & presentations at scientific conferences (5%)

  • Possession of other postgraduate degrees (10%)

  • Recommendation letters (5%)

  • Interview (30%)

TOTAL: 100%

Phase C – Interview

As part of the admission process for the MSc program, candidates undergo an oral interview. Their performance during the interview is considered in their final selection and can be graded up to 30 points.

The oral interview aims to:

  • Assess the general scientific knowledge of the candidate and their personal competencies.

  • Identify special skills, qualifications, and relevant activities of the candidate.

  • Detect any potential difficulties the candidate may face in maintaining full attendance and fulfilling the MSc program’s obligations.

Selection of MSc Students

The MSc Selection Committee compiles a ranking list of candidates, arranged in order of merit, including all applicants and highlighting those admitted to the program. The list is then forwarded to the Coordinating Committee for review and subsequently submitted to the Departmental Assembly of the School of Medicine at the University of Thessaly for final approval.

If two or more candidates achieve the same final score, all candidates with equal ranking will be admitted.

Successful candidates must confirm their acceptance in writing (via email) within seven (7) days, agreeing to comply with the program’s regulations. Failure to respond within this timeframe is considered a rejection of the admission offer. In the case of negative responses, the MSc Secretariat informs the next candidates in line according to the evaluation ranking list.

Appeals against the ranking list can be submitted within five (5) days from the announcement of the results. Appeals must be specific, and the final decision is made by the Departmental Assembly of the School of Medicine at the University of Thessaly.

Number of Admitted Students

The maximum number of students admitted to the MSc program per year is forty (40).
