Academic Staff Distinctions

The academic staff of the MSc Programme are distinguished by their active presence and recognition within the Greek and international academic and scientific community. International awards, participation in leading scientific organisations, competitive research funding, and distinctions in education and social impact reflect the scientific excellence, international outlook, and academic quality of the Programme’s teaching staff.

Dr Ioannis Seimenis actively contributes to the educational and scientific activities of the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics (EFOMP) as a representative on the Postgraduate Educational Programme & Scientific Programme Subcommittee. He is also a Founding Member of the EFOMP MRI Special Interest Group (MRI SIG), contributing to the advancement of education, research, and collaboration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging across Europe.

Prof. Vincent Giampietro of King’s College London, founder and long-standing Director of the MSc in Neuroimaging, has received important distinctions for his contribution to university education. His awards include the King’s Teaching Excellence Award (2014) and the Outstanding Contribution to Student Experience Award (2025).

Dr Ioannis Tsougos was honoured with the Social Action Award at the Study UK Alumni Awards Greece 2025, organised by the British Council. The award recognises the contribution and social impact of graduates of UK universities and highlights the connection between academic and scientific activity and broader societal engagement.

Prof. Nikolaos Karakatsanis, Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Director of the PET/MR Programme, has established a strong international research presence in the field of molecular imaging. His scientific activity includes competitive research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an extensive publication record, and broad international academic collaborations.

Prof. Sotirios Zarogiannis was elected to the Board of the General Assembly (BGA) of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS). His participation in one of the leading international representative bodies in the physiological sciences constitutes an important recognition of his scientific contribution and international academic standing.

Prof. Ioannis Seimenis of the School of Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was re-elected President of the Panhellenic Federation of Associations of Teaching and Research Staff (POSDEP). His re-election represents an important institutional recognition of his active contribution to the Greek academic community and his engagement with key issues concerning higher education.
